Kaihere Sch opens new sports turf

After three years of determined fundraising, a dedicated group of parents has helped to transform a once-tired court area into a vibrant new sports hub at Kaihere School.
A small team of PTA members raised $100,000 over three years for what became known as Project ActiveTurf.
An official opening for the new turf kicked off on February 12 with parents, families and the wider community.
PTA chair Kirsty Harris said the project showed the strength of “our community”.
“The fundraising took a lot of hard work, but the result is something our children and families will benefit from for years to come.”
Board presiding member Sarah Koch thanked everyone who contributed through volunteering time, donations or supporting fundraising events.
The new turf area has quickly become a highlight.

Kaihere sports leader Rosa-Lee Cross said “in our school, everyone does everything”.
“It [is] so fun that it happens on our new sports space as well. It makes our school tidier, bright and vibrant.”
The new turf was also open for community groups to use for a range of sports including tennis, paddle ball, football, hockey, basketball and netball.
The PTA is now in the planning stages of ‘Project Play’ to support upgrades to the Kaihere School playground area.
