OUR HISTORY

This much-loved community newspaper began nearly 30 years ago as the Plains Profile by a group of hard-working volunteers passionate about their community. In April, 2020, local journalist Teresa Maxwell bought the Plains Profile, renaming it The Valley Profile to reflect the new area of the Thames Valley.

The Valley Profile is run by award-winning, experienced news professionals, with many years of experience in the industry.

With a background in daily, community and digital news reporting and sub-editing since 1995, owner-editor Teresa’s vision for The Profile is to continue its strong community focus, covering hard news, general news and events, as well as celebrating our local people.

In November, 2020, experienced reporter Kelley Tantau joined the team, and is now part time. Kelley began her journalism career at Stuff as a general reporter in 2015, covering a wide range of news stories throughout the Waikato.

Reporter Alice Parminter started at The Profile part time in January, 2022. Previously, Alice had several years’ working for Stuff as a reporter for their Auckland communities, and now lives in Hauraki with her husband and two young children.
