Preparation is underway for this year’s Daffodil Day Luncheon in Paeroa.
The annual event, to raise funds for the Cancer Society, will take place at Paeroa’s RSA on August 24.
This year’s luncheon will see some changes, organisers said, with the RSA’s new caterer, Marie’s Kitchen, stepping in for what promises to be an “excellent” spread.
Attendees are also being invited to dress in their best and brightest yellow outfit, and participate in the inaugural “Well-Parade”, with a shot at taking out the prize for best-dressed.
This year’s guest speaker is Alyson Bowker from the Cancer Society, and Hauraki District Mayor Toby Adams is also expected to be in attendance.
Doors open at 11am for a noon start, with raffles and lucky door prizes available.
For those who wish to get involved in other ways, the luncheon organisers will be selling bunches of daffodils around town in the lead-up to the event, and the charity’s annual street appeal will be taking place on August 28-29.
Last year’s luncheon saw the group raise $3591 for the charity. It’s a cause close to everyone’s heart, the organisers said, who all volunteer their time and resources for the event.
“I had a sister-in-law who died of cancer at 32… brother-in-law had brain cancer,” first-time volunteer Brenda Burn said.
“It’s touched every family.”
