All floral fun

It was a day of celebration at the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre on October 1.
People from all across the Hauraki-Coromandel gathered from 10am for the Flowers for Friendship event to celebrate the International Day of The Older Person.
Event organiser Age Concern Hauraki Coromandel hosted a room-full of happy punters and were supported by the Piki te Ora team from Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki, who offered free health checks and shared information about their services during the event.
People enjoyed dance performances, mingled over a spread of morning tea and admired a colourful display of hand-made flowers, which were made out of materials such as harakeke (flax), knitted or crocheted, beads, paper, plastic bottles and more.
Groups, schools and people across the community donated the flowers for the special event, which were shared with all those in attendance.
Any remaining flowers were to be donated to people in the area following the Flowers for Friendship event.
