Tina Moir and Tracey Traynor’s annual Pink Ribbon Fundraising Lunch was a stellar success, raising $5500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
The lunch, held on May 23 at the Turua Community Hall, was the third time the mother-and-daughter pair have held the event.
Over the past three years, they have raised a total of $13,343.05 for the foundation.
“I’m a breast cancer survivor, my mother died from breast cancer, I had an auntie with breast cancer,” Tina told The Profile.
“Now I have a niece with breast cancer. So it’s quite an important foundation for us to support.”
With more than 3700 people being diagnosed with breast cancer every year, Tina said the cause is also one which is close to many people in her community.
“We’ve got quite a few in our neighbourhood itself that have had it as well.”
This year, the ladies’ event was attended by over 100 people, with some travelling from as far away as Queenstown and Hastings.
Guests were served a hot lunch – ham, roast mutton, sausages done two ways – and dessert, and there were numerous auctions, raffles, and spot prizes.
More than 50 sponsors, mostly local businesses and families, contributed to the success of the day. Others pitched in to cook and serve.
“We thank all of our sponsors, our helpers, and our guests,” Tina said.
“It’s a very worthwhile cause and [we’ve had] a pretty awesome response.
