CONSERVATION WEEK ADVERTISING FEATURE
Businesses, community groups and individuals have the opportunity to be part of an ambitious conservation effort to turn the tide for kiwi and other native species along the Thames Coast.
For more than 20 years, Thames Coast Kiwi Care (TCKC) with the blessing of Ngāti Tamaterā, has led on-the-ground action to protect kiwi and other vulnerable native species. Now, the challenge — and the opportunity — is to scale this impact, with local businesses and communities having a vital role to play.
TCKC co-ordinator Pippa Jackson said TCKC, a registered charity, was entering an important new phase — seeking long-term partnerships with businesses, with the goal of becoming fully sustainable and resilient for the future. “Businesses can be part of something meaningful that adds value and impact, involves their teams in hands-on conservation work, strengthens community connections and helps protect our natural environment,” she said.

Operating across more than 5000 hectares from Te Mātā through to Waikawau, TCKC has a total of 80 volunteers, including 60-plus trappers along with committee members and events/fundraising organisers. Our hard-working volunteers are dedicated to protecting kiwi, pekapeka (bats), and other vulnerable native species through pest control, habitat restoration, and monitoring. This is about creating lasting impact for generations to come.
TCKC also delivers education programmes in local schools, helping inspire the next generation.
