Welcome to Folkhouse

ADVERTORIAL
When mother-daughter duo Stacey and Mia McCormick opened the doors to their new homewares store, Folkhouse, in the heart of Thames on September 1 – they didn’t expect to feel so at home.
“One of the cool things is that we’ve been able to discover Thames, and what Thames has to offer. I really like it, there’s a lot going on. I just feel comfortable here,” co-owner Stacey told The Profile.
“We’re really happy to be here.”
Folkhouse, located at 505 Pollen St, hosts an assortment of selected homewares and lifestyle pieces that “make us feel good – so we hope that other people do too,” Stacey said.
Every detail has been thoughtfully put together from the neatly organised shelves, lovely aromas and art displays to pieces of furniture and beautifully arranged clothes.
The store was a place for the Kaiaua mother and daughter duo to share in their love of cosy interiors and beautiful things, but it was also a space with a purpose.

It set a new pace of life for Stacey, who shifted from a background in funeral directing, and helped set up a future for Mia.
Folkhouse has opened a door for 20-year-old Mia, who lives with autism, to gain work experience in an environment where she can learn and grow at her own pace alongside her mother. “Mia doesn’t really like communicating too much, but she’s trying to grow that part of herself,” Stacey said.
“I’m really proud of her.”
DETAILS: Pop in to Folkhouse between 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Friday, or Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
