Supporters lined the field at Hugh Hayward Domain on July 18 for the Thames Valley Rugby Union Women’s Premier Final showdown between Te Poho ō Paeroa and Thames Taniwha. The finale saw passionate players on both sides play with heart, mana and pride. But following a season “we’ll never forget”, the team to walk away with the Karly Forsyth Memorial Cup and a 48-12 victory was Te Poho ō Paeroa.
“Making history as the first Paeroa women’s rugby team to win a championship is something we’ll carry with pride forever. We didn’t just win a final – we created a piece of history for our club and our community,” the champions said. “Thank you to everyone who believed in us from day one. Your support pushed us when we needed it most, and we’ll never forget hearing you on the sidelines every week.” The Hauraki North Diamonds snapped up 3rd place in their clash against the Coromandel Hornets with a score of 17-10.
