The world of BMX is where Danika Bergersen lives.
The young rider, of Hauraki Plains College recently represented New Zealand at the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, and competed in the 17-24 female category.
“This was my second consecutive World Championship, after also competing at the 2025 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark,” the biking whizz said.
“It was a huge achievement to qualify for Worlds again and race alongside some of the best BMX riders from around the world.”
At the competition, Danika said she achieved the 16th fastest qualifying time in the 17-24 year female category, where she progressed through to the ⅛ finals.
“The racing was intense, but I really enjoyed the whole experience of being part of such a massive international event.”
One of her favourite parts, she said, was when she met riders from different countries and swapped jerseys with riders from France, Australia and Chile.
“It was such a cool way to make memories and connections with people who share the same passion for BMX,” she said.
“I’m really grateful for everyone who helped me get there, especially my family, sponsors and supporters.”
