Grassroots ingenuity ahead of fun day

Helpful handymen and women drove their mowers down the streets of Turua in order to get to a clean-up day at the Domain earlier this month.
The working bee was called by local Brendan Walsh, a.k.a. The Rocker Warrior, who is planning a Family Fun Day in April and noticed the site for the event was in need of a little TLC.
“I decided to put on the Ride On Mower day to help get the domain looking beautiful and ready for the fun day in a couple of weeks,” he said.
“I was blown away by the support from the community. People were riding their mowers down the street to get to the domain to help. I was very proud.”
Brendan said preparations for the Turua Family Fun Day were going well, with around 15 stalls, 15 food vendors, and the entertainment all booked.
“Big trucks are coming, hotrods, farm equipment… CFM are broadcasting from the fun day as well.”
Being known as one of the New Zealand Warriors’ biggest fans, Brendan also said tickets for the 2024 rugby league team’s Heritage Jersey raffle will go live shortly, and he’d be at PakNSave Thames on April 11 and 12 to sell them.
“Things are slowly coming together and I am getting awesome support and donations from around the district which I am very humbled by,” he said.
“I can’t wait for the fun day to get here.”
Another Ride On Mower Day will be planned ahead of the Family Fun Day, which is set to take place on April 13, 10am-4pm.
