The Thames Music Group has one final concert for the year, a fundraiser for the 152-year-old St George’s Church.
Danish musician, organist and jazz pianist Mads Grunum, who is currently living in Thames, has offered to put on a special Christmas concert and to contribute his performer’s donation to the Restoration Fund for the church, which Thames Music Group’s Beverley Groves said was “badly in need of repairs and maintenance”.
“This magnificent community building needs to be preserved,” she said.
Mads has a background as an organ player, jazz pianist and as a composer of modern hymns.
He has performed concerts in different parts of the world, from Europe to Russia, but this is the first time he will be performing in New Zealand, where he is living for a year.
At his concerts he focuses mainly on Christmas music, but he will also present ragtime music and all-time classics like Oscar Peterson’s Hymn to Freedom, Over the Rainbow, and Salute to Bach.
