Aircraft displays and scenic flights over Mercury Bay will be on offer for passengers who board the Mercury Bay Aero Club Open Day on December 30.
President Evan Wheeler said the free entry event had been held for five years and was a “very good” activity for people visiting Whitianga between Christmas and New Year.
“It’s not often people get to look inside airplanes and it’s business as usual at the airfield so there’s that opportunity for people to see aircraft they don’t normally get to,” he said.
“There’ll be a few guys coming and going who own warbirds, harvards, the odd biplane and classic cars from Whitianga come as well.
“If the weather is right there will also be scenic flights and helicopter rides available and the DC-3 will be over from Ardmore, and they’ll be doing joyrides,” he said.
The event will take off between 10am and 4pm.
