‘Standout features’ set for Waihī Garden Ramble

Things are ramping up as the Lions Club of Waihī prepares to host its upcoming Garden Ramble on November 7 and 8.
The purpose of the ramble is to raise funds for the community.
Garden Ramble committee convenor Jennifer Chappel told The Profile the proceeds this year would go to the Lions skin cancer screening bus and other Lions projects for the community.
“We’ve been doing this for a number of years now. We do lots of things to raise money for the different organizations around town and what have you.
“We thought this was a worthy cause,” she said.
They planned to hold the ramble from 9am to 4pm on both days whether wet or fine, she said.
“There’s 14 gardens [and] eight new ones that haven’t been open to the public before.”
All of the gardens, except for one, are based in town.

“This year we decided because of the cost of petrol and cost of living and all that sort of thing, that we would keep it all in town so there wasn’t too much travelling, bar one.”
Food was to be available at two of the gardens, and toilet stops at a few places, plus a big plant sale along the way, she said.
All the information is located on the tickets, which can be purchased from a few different collection points across Waihī, Waihī Beach, Paeroa and Thames.
“It’s nice to see new gardens. We’ve got one or two favourites, but they haven’t been on for, you know, two or three years.”
The Lions hold the garden ramble every two years.
“Some of the [gardens] haven’t been on for, say, four years or something like that, so you can see the difference in the growing of them.”

People could look forward to seeing the range of gardens, and one in particular that Jennifer said had “standout features”.
“The Butterfly Garden is very good and it’s good for children to see,” she said.
“The other garden that has really standout features is on the top of Beach Rd and it has lovely, huge statues of all sorts in the garden.”
DETAILS: Tickets cost $30 and are available at Beach Road Garden Centre, Waihī Beach Home and Hardware, Waihī HDC, Eclectic Studio in Waihī, Country Dog Paeroa and Aeroview Garden Centre inThames. For more information, contact Jennifer, Ph 027 204 0488.
