Morning tea raises $6.5k

A morning tea in Ngatea has raised $6500 for cancer support groups.

Nearly 200 people attended the Ngatea Lions Club Cancer Support morning tea at the Ngatea War Memorial Hall on August 26, in what club president Pat Ridings said was their biggest-ever turnout.

“It’s a lovely social day out… people come back every year. They love it.”

Along with morning tea, the event had quick-fire raffles and a talk by guest speaker Angela Williams from the Thames Cancer Support Group.

The funds raised at the event will be split between the Thames Cancer Support Group and the Lions Cancer Lodge in Hamilton.

Lions Club secretary Brian McMillan said the event was a chance to help spread the word about the importance of supporting those in the community who are affected by cancer.

“It was a wonderful community effort, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed, attended, donated, sponsored, or helped behind the scenes.”
