Two organisations in Hauraki have collaborated on a new initiative that will support people in the areas of strength, balance, posture and confidence.
Age Concern Hauraki Coromandel and PEARL Movements©, a music-led movement programme designed to support people later in life in the areas of balance, posture and confidence, are seeking expressions of interest from communities, organisations and groups interested in bringing the programme to their local area.
It complements and runs alongside the Steady As You Go© strength and balance groups, offering another enjoyable and accessible way for older adults to keep moving.
Both programmes support people to stay active, independent and connected with others in their community.
While Steady As You Go© focuses on peer-led strength and balance exercises, PEARL Movements brings movement and music together in a fun and engaging way.
Age Concern Hauraki Coromandel currently supports a growing network of Steady As You Go© groups across the region, and we are always keen to explore new opportunities that help older people remain active and socially connected.
PEARL Movements has been proudly researched and developed in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Grounded in PhD research with New Zealand older adults, it draws on the evidence-based strength, balance and postural principles that underpin Aotearoa’s recognised falls prevention approaches, including the Otago Exercise Programme.
Shaped through research within New Zealand communities rather than imported overseas models, PEARL brings proven ingredients together in different recipes, weaving strength, balance and postural foundations into enjoyable, music-led sessions designed for moving well.
If you, your community, organisation, or group would like to explore bringing PEARL Movements to your area, we would love to hear from you.
