Hauraki skater lands NZ top 6

Lenny Torrens is no stranger to kickflips and backside tailslides.
It’s something the 15-year-old skateboarder made very clear at the 2025 Skateboard National Championships recently, where he competed in the Open Men’s division against riders from ages 13 through to 50 plus at the Mount Maunganui Destination Skate Park.
But the teen star didn’t just compete.
Lenny shredded his way to the top 10 and landed a sixth place ranking in New Zealand for the Open Men’s Street Skating.
The talented teen of Hauraki Plains College said he achieved it by “putting down a line” which meant skating around the whole park, where he used a variety of obstacles and techniques.
The young shredder told The Profile even though he made a few mistakes and knew he could’ve done better – he was “pretty stoked” with the outcome.
“I have put in a bit of work to achieve this by training every day at Pukekohe skate park or wherever I can find a skatepark. I usually have my skateboard with me.”
He said he was also stoked about his mates who ranked in third and fifth places.
Something Lenny said he learned from the experience was “putting in the time matters”.
The teen athlete looked forward to making a Street Part, which is a collection of video clips of him skating in the streets, and taken by his mates or his dad, he said.
But it was evident his success was backed by a strong support network.
“I’d like to thank my mum, dad and sponsors Irrom Distribution, After Hours and The Good Room,” he said.
“Without them I can’t do what I love.”
