The Turua Community Hall’s centenary was celebrated in style on September 26, kicking off with a vintage car parade around the Hauraki Plains village.
Residents and visitors to Turua also celebrated the official opening of the new library building behind the hall, and heard about work that has been done at the Turua Domain, along with future plans for the upgrade of the hall.
The event was capped off with a social evening including a buffet meal, dancing, music and fond memories.
Organiser Marina Wigmore said the hall was abuzz with activity.
“We had about 90 for dinner… there were a lot of people catching up, they hadn’t seen each other for yonks,” she said.
“Quite a few people stood up and gave us some of their own memories of the hall, the rock and roll dancers did line dancing – it was a really good night.”
