Minister for regional development and resources Shane Jones was in Kōpū on August 15 to officially open the Cyclenomics facility at Southbridge Industrial Park.
The event was attended by dozens of invited businesspeople, friends, family, and dignitaries, including Thames-Coromandel Mayor Peter Revell.
Minister Jones said he was happy to celebrate the opening of the tyre-recycling facility, which would take detritus from the environment and enhance roads.
It will also create around 35 jobs.
“If we can avoid sending our waste overseas, or just tossing it in the landfill, then it’s actually going to make a lot of sense,” he said.
