The Waihī Memorial RSA auditorium “hummed” away on the afternoon of July 19.
That’s when the rhythm of 23 music makers and an audience of around 85 “enthusiastic” senior citizens filled the room.
Lions member David Parish said it was the annual Lions Club of Waihī, Waihī RSA and A Friends Place Concert, which had become a feature of the town’s social scene for the last 10 years.
“The format is for the Friends Place singers, so ably led by Trudi van Stee, to sing a wide variety of well known ‘oldies’ while the RSA catering staff provide a wholesome afternoon tea.
“The Waihi Lions Club co-sponsors the event and members assist with the handing out of afternoon tea,” he said.
“The music is greatly appreciated by all and it is worth pointing out that most members of [the] choir itself would also qualify as senior citizens.”
