A flurry of storybook characters gathered with staff and family at Moanataiari School last month to celebrate Book Week in style with the school-wide Book Parade.
Moanataiari kaiawhina ako/ learning assistant and librarian Wendy Davies told The Profile the event was part of a larger week of book-related activities which included a Book Fair, teachers reading favourite picture books, seniors reading to juniors, and a colouring competition.
“It was also lovely seeing the student leaders step up this week when organising the events, even MCing the Book Parade,” she said.
“Book Week is important as it’s a chance to make reading fun. Nothing has made me happier this year than seeing students excited about going to the library and racing each other to find a favourite author.
“We would love to thank Nicole Thorburn from the Thames Library who came and helped as a special guest judge. Also to our student librarians Mehar Brar, Virath Kumar and Sophie Gray for all they did organising the event.”
