Drop-in sessions to help residents check rates rebate eligibility

Hauraki District Council is encouraging eligible residents to check whether they can receive money off their rates, with free drop-in sessions being held across the district.
The sessions are aimed at seniors, SuperGold Card holders, people on lower or fixed incomes, and anyone who would like help understanding or applying for a rates rebate.
A rates rebate can reduce the amount you need to pay for your rates.
For the 2026/27 rating year, eligible ratepayers could receive up to $830 off their rates.
The rebate is not automatic, so people need to apply each year. At the drop-in sessions, Council staff will be available to answer questions, help people check what information they need, and work through what rebate they may be able to get. Residents who live in a retirement village can also ask about any extra forms their village operator may need to complete.
“Some people miss out because they are not sure if they qualify, or because the forms feel a bit tricky. These sessions are a chance to sit down with our friendly team and talk it through in person,” Hauraki District Council revenue manager Jessica Hughes said. People are encouraged to bring proof of total household income before tax, their SuperGold Card if they have one, relevant information they think they need and any questions they would like to ask. Drop-in sessions run from 10am to 12pm at the Waihi Service Centre on August 11 and 18; He Pātaka Kōrero | Hauraki Plains Library and Community Centre on August 12 and 19; and Paeroa Service Centre on August 13 and 20. No booking is needed.
