Reggae vibes set for Waitangi Day

Laid-back tunes are heading to Kauaeranga Valley this Waitangi Day, for Dub in the Valley.

The community event, funded by Creative Coromandel, will run from 12-9pm at the Kauaeranga Valley Community Hall and feature a backdrop of reggae tunes from artists including Auckland soundsystem operator Red Robin, vinyl DJs Undercover from the Sandy Bay Social Club, Empress Naima from Auckland, Misteek from Wellington, and a live dubset from Auckland’s Burning Soundz.

The aim of the event is simple, organisers said – bringing people together in unity to chill, dance, and enjoy good company while celebrating our national holiday.

Entry is by gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to a nationwide fundraiser supporting the Alpha School of Music – Jamaica’s oldest music institution. Alpha’s mission is to rebuild and support Western Jamaica’s musicians, studios, and venues most impacted by Hurricane Melissa.

Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket, plenty of water, sunscreen, and of course their dancing shoes. There will be no food or alcohol sales onsite, but water, tea, and coffee will be available in the hall.
