Creative journeys await

Coromandel is set to “come alive with creativity” in October as artists prepare to open their doors to the public for this year’s Coromandel Open Studios Arts Tour.
The event will take place across the first two weekends of next month from October 4-5 and October 11-12, with artists guides available online and at local information centres.
Visitors will have a rare opportunity to step inside the working studios of painters, sculptors, potters, printmakers, jewellers, photographers, and more, and gain a glimpse into both the artistic process and the stunning landscapes that inspire it.
The tour transforms the region into a living gallery from coastal cottages to hidden bush retreats. Art lovers and curious explorers alike will discover original works, meet the makers, and experience the vibrant culture that makes the Coromandel a creative haven.
Organising committee member Charlene Scott said the Arts Tour wasn’t about just seeing art on the walls.

“It’s about connecting with the people behind it, hearing their stories, and sharing in the inspiration of this unique place we call home.”
Most studios will have artwork available for purchase, offering visitors the chance to take home a special piece of the Coromandel.
“Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a weekend wanderer, or simply curious, this self-guided tour promises inspiration at every turn.”
An exhibition at Hauraki House Gallery, Coromandel, will also run from October 4 to October 12, kicking off with an opening night from 5.30pm on October 3.
