STEM warriors

Primary school students from around the Thames region gathered at Pārāwai School in Thames on April 4 and 5, for the inter-school EPro-8 STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths competition. Teams of four were provided with a workstation containing a variety of equipment, including gears, wheels, pulleys, joiners, nuts and bolts, tools, aluminium framing, motors, and electronics. The teams were given two and a half hours to complete a variety of challenges such as building a scooter. As they completed each portion of a challenge, the judge provided feedback and guidance and awarded points. ALICE PARMINTER headed into the Year 5-6 session, to see how the competitors measured up.
