‘Sea of yellow’ the theme for fundraiser

A sea of yellow is heading to the Paeroa RSA, with the annual Daffodil Day luncheon scheduled for August 28.

Organisers Elaine Lally, Margaret Ramshaw and Joan Waterson said they’ve had a number of queries already from people keen not to miss out.

“It’s a sea of yellow: we’ve got yellow flowers, yellow balloons, we wear yellow sashes and daffodils,” Margaret said.

The cause is one close to their hearts – Margaret and Joan are cancer survivors themselves.

“I’ve lost a neighbour, I’ve lost so many people,” Elaine said.

“So I think it’s a really worthy cause.”

Doors open at 11am, and there will be lucky door prizes, raffles and a guest speaker from the Cancer Society, followed by a 12.30pm lunch.

Last year, the luncheon raised around $5,000. Some of the funds raised came from bunches of daffodils, which were hand-picked by Joan and her team of helpers.

“[We’d like to] show our appreciation to Leanne and Derek who’ve opened their property for so many years and let us go and pick daffodils,” Joan said, adding that she has picked hundreds of the blooms each year.

“It’s a fun day, everybody’s happy and it’s really quite nice,” Elaine said.

DETAILS: Tickets are available from Addictions Giftshop for $20 each, limited to 100 guests. No door sales. Eftpos not available on the day.
