Severe Weather Warning for Coromandel

A Severe Weather Warning for the Coromandel has been issued by MetService. The warning is in effect for 24 hours from 10pm on Thursday July 20.

Heavy rain and gale force winds are forecast to intensify later this evening and continue through Friday.

“We are looking at 150mm or more of rain with winds gusting over 100km/hr,” Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler said.

“It is going to be a rough 24 hours.

“Surface flooding, slips and road closures are likely, so we ask everyone to play it safe, don’t take risks and keep up to date on weather and road conditions.”

Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, MetService said. Surface flooding and slips are also possible, and driving conditions may be hazardous.
