Hauraki to think pink

A trio of Hauraki events are planned to take place this month to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
The charity said breast cancer was the most common cancer for New Zealand women, and around 300 women in the Waikato region were diagnosed each year.

Lyn McHugh, who will host the first line of fundraising events for Hauraki at Paeroa’s former racecourse on May 17, told The Profile she hoped to raise more than $1000 like the past two luncheons had done.
“[Breast cancer is] something that just about structures around most families… I know so many people who have it and [fundraising is] just something that is so worthwhile doing,” she said.
“It’s helping to raise the funds for [the foundation’s] education and for the research and more importantly the patient support and the support that’s given to the families during treatment and recovery.
“This will be our third one, we’ve raised around $1200 in the last two so I’m hoping to do the same again.”
Lyn encouraged those who wished to attend to book in advance as there would be a limited number of walk-ins allowed.
A second Pink Ribbon luncheon with entertainment, raffles and activities is also planned to take place at Paeroa RSA on May 20.
The event, where bookings are essential for catering purposes, will be hosted by the female members of the RSA and Mel’s Catering Paeroa, with all proceeds from the raffles being donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
A third Pink Ribbon luncheon is planned to take place on May 25 at St Paschal’s Catholic Church in Ngātea.
