Walkathon to support youth

Hundreds of people will walk across Rhodes Park in Thames for the I Am Hope 24-hour walkathon between November 4 at 10am and November 5 at 10am.
The event, hosted by Rangatahi Ora Hauraki, intends to raise funds for I Am Hope’s Gumboot Friday and would also feature kids activities, food stalls, raffles and live entertainment.
Organiser Roanne Mitchell-Te Teira said registrations would remain open until November 4 for any koha (donation) and she thanked the community for its support.
“We’ve had a great response not just in Thames but the wider community like Paeroa, Waihī and Coromandel,” she said.
“The event is about our rangatahi knowing there is always someone walking beside them and that’s the kaupapa [principle] we want to push.
“Can’t wait to see you all on November 4.”
Roanne said participants could walk for as long as they would like and encouraged the public to follow the Rangatahi Ora Hauraki facebook page for updates in the lead up to the event.
