The Lions Club of Waihī hosted its Daffodil Brunch Fundraiser on August 23 at the Waihī RSA.
Organiser Jennifer Chappel told The Profile the day was lots of fun, with around 76 meals served up. “The public really got in behind it and supported it well. The RSA were amazing, the meal was lovely. Everybody got into the spirit of things.”
People took part in the quiz, raffles and enjoyed live music.
Last year, the club planted and grew 1000 daffodils on a club members farm and at the Brunch Fundraiser, they auctioned off “a whole lot”, she said.
They will also sell live daffodils on Daffodil Day, August 28, outside Barrons Pharmacy, New World Waihī and also at Waihī Beach.
“I’d like to thank everybody who came along and supported it and all our sponsors. The town [Waihī] supported it by donating lovely prizes which were all welcomed when they were won yesterday,” she said.
The NZ Lions Clubs Free Skin Cancer Screening bus will also be in Waihī and Waihī Beach on August 29 outside Fresh Choice from 10am to 12pm and outside the United Church in Waihī Beach between 1pm and 3pm. It’s free and takes around 15 minutes for people to have the full body scan, Jennifer said.
