Quilty pleasure

Patchwork Unlimited Turua is gearing up to host its annual Quilt Show for 2026 this August.

Patchwork member Kirstin MacBeth said the community was invited to see “some amazing quilts” at the exhibition in the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre on August 7-9.

People could also see table runners, bags and even quilted clothing all made by club members, she said.

There would also be eight merchants with popup shops, she said, selling pieces of fabric or sewing notions or balls of wool “that you need”, she said.

“We are a friendly group of approximately 40 members who meet fortnightly at the Turua Community Hall every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.

“We do many crafts including sewing, hand quilting, and embroidery projects, even knitting.”

Kirstin said they all came from various backgrounds with different skill levels, which made it a “perfect environment” for learning more tips and tricks, getting inspiration for future projects and to make new friends.

Throughout the year, she said they organised workshops with renowned national tutors to explore different techniques and experiment with a variety of materials such as paint or threads.

“Then there are the fun bus trips to destinations far and wide or as we say, Fabric Acquisition Road Trips (FARTS),” she said.

“We have raffles along the way, lunch out, and shared camaraderie.”

DETAILS: Patchwork Unlimited Turua Quilt Show at the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre, 200 Mary Street, Thames, from 9.30am on August 7-8 and from 10am on August 9. Entry is $5.
