A banner of grey sky and blustery wind didn’t put a damper on the Matatoki School Community for its annual Calf Club Day on September 18. People flowed into the school hall to see the art exhibition with creations such as miniature farm scenes, homemade animals, pinecone decorations, drawings and more including an assortment of donated cakes. Friendly faces in the kitchen prepared a welcome spread of food, which included a donation of meat by Burton’s Butchery. Out on the field, families, teachers and animal judges looked on while students with goats, lambs and of course, calves put their best hooves forward for the competition. One of the organisers, office manager Katherine Forsyth, told The Profile the awesome turnout was testament to the wonderful relationship and support the school had with its community. Reporter DAVIDDA HIKATANGATA captured some of the monumental moo-ments.
