It’s one thing to be part of the community and another to serve it, and since 1867 Twentymans Funeral Directors has done both.
The best part about it all for managing director Adrian Catran was being able to support families across Thames and the wider Coromandel Peninsula through their grieving processes and help create a fitting farewell for their loved ones, he said.
Even though many things have developed over the decades, one thing remains unchanged for the team at Twentymans: their commitment to take care of people’s loved ones, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
One important part of their service is attention to detail, and one key element is floristry.
That’s where The Grahamstown Flower Merchant comes in – Twentymans’ preferred supplier of floral arrangements.

While florist and creative director at The Grahamstown Flower Merchant Vicki McWatts provides people with flowers for all occasions, she said it was an honour to create arrangements for the funerals of people’s loved ones.
In some instances, Vicki has been invited to forage for flowers and foliage from the gardens of people she is creating the tributes for, and other times she has included things such as fruit, vegetables, clay bird targets and even knitting, she said.
“They definitely can be quite personalised but also at the same time some families, they’ll just kind of leave it up to me.
“It’s certainly something that you put love into and the arrangements can be quite bespoke and I love that. It’s showing a bit of that person in the floral tributes.”
