Support for young people a focus

ADVERTISING FEATURE
Te Kura Tuarua o Te Kauaeranga Thames High School is looking forward to the 2026 school year with a clear focus on supporting young people to thrive academically, socially, and culturally. A key priority is the continued embedding of the school’s Graduate Profile – Te Āhua o Ā Tātou Ākonga.
Developed over the past two years through consultation, the profile outlines the knowledge, skills, values, and dispositions students are expected to leave school with. These include effective communication, cultural understanding, resilience, ethical decision-making, creativity, and a strong commitment to wellbeing.
The Graduate Profile helps ensure learning across all subjects is purposeful and connected to real-world pathways.

Alongside this, Thames High School will continue strengthening its Instructional Model, supporting consistent, high-quality teaching across the school. This includes clear learning goals, positive relationships, teaching approaches that meet diverse learner needs, and regular feedback to help students understand their progress. Attendance, engagement, and wellbeing remain strong areas of focus, with the school continuing to work closely with students and whānau to support regular attendance and early intervention when needed.
In 2026, the school will introduce Te Ara Whakamana, a small, locally delivered pathway designed to support a small number of students who need a more flexible, relationship-based approach while remaining connected to school, whānau, and community.
The school will also continue strengthening its partnership with Ngāti Maru, enhancing culturally responsive practice and Māori student success, while investing in facilities that support safe, welcoming learning environments.
