It’s been refreshing to kick off a brand new year with the summer school holidays. It’s a time when students from across the motu can take a moment to unwind, relax and reset for the new school year ahead.
But with the summer holidays soon wrapping up, students and families across the Hauraki-Coromandel will need to start getting ready for term one of the 2026 school season to begin.
There are all sorts of things for families and students to consider when preparing to go back to school, such as getting into the swing of routine. It’s a good time to think about reintroducing routines a week or two before school starts, such as set times for going to bed, waking up in the morning and meal times.
One key part of preparing for school is to also organise uniforms and stationery lists. It’s never too early to freshen up on a few subjects by taking a look through some of last year’s workbooks or the 2026 work books to wake up those parts of the brain. Something students and families can consider is setting small achievable study goals to help with motivation and inspiration. It can also be useful to keep track of important school dates on a family calendar for things such as sports days, events, parent teacher interviews or school mufti days.
One of the most important tools for students is to be hopeful and make room to dream and give term one their best shot.
