Nestled between Thames and Paeroa, just 5km from Kopu, The Cheese Barn is one of those rare places that captures the charm of rural New Zealand while serving up some of the finest local flavours around.
Perfectly positioned along the Hauraki Rail Trail, it’s a favourite stop for cyclists and day-trippers alike – a place where good coffee, award-winning cheese, and a relaxed country atmosphere come together beautifully.
The café uses locally roasted Coffee LaLa beans and organic milk processed on-site, making every cup a smooth, authentic experience.
But coffee is just the beginning. The Cheese Barn’s real pride is in its artisan cheese and yoghurt, all made on site from organic A2 milk.
If you have a sweet tooth, the homemade Gelato and Sorbet Ice Creams are a must-try.
Crafted from organic milk and cream, these indulgent treats are only sold on site, served in cones, tubs, or atop a Belgian waffle – a real treat.

The breakfast menu is served on weekends from 9am to midday.
The popular Big Barn Breakfast has bacon, eggs, mushrooms, sausages, hash browns, toast, and their own award-winning halloumi.
Eggs Benedict is another favourite.
The Cheese Barn is open six days a week, closed Mondays, and welcomes guests from 9am to 4pm (with the kitchen closing at 3:30pm).
During the summer months, check their Facebook page for updates on public holiday openings.
The café is BYO licensed so you can savour a glass of wine alongside a cheese board or pizza under the shade of a tree.
There are also farm animals like alpacas, goats, guinea pigs and rabbits to pat and feed.
The Cheese Barn is as much a family experience as it is a foodie destination.
