Fresh tunes of Sophie Songbird

If there’s one thing people can look forward to from a Sophie Songbird gig: “they can expect to feel refreshed”.
It’s something music-lovers will have the opportunity to witness as the songstress is set to wrap up her Topliss in the Garden Picking Flowers tour at the Secret Garden in Waihī Beach at 6pm on October 25.
The music-maker of South Taranaki told The Profile the tour so far had been fulfilling. “Most of the music I’m playing is newly written and unreleased. It’s been really fun to experiment and relish in the freshness of these songs. “Writing and performing this music brings me immense joy.”
Sophie’s tour kicked off on October 2 and included places such as Ōakura, Raglan, Auckland, Nelson, Levin, Kapiti, Wellington and Mount Maunganui.
But Sophie had an idea for the final show: “I’m planning to record the Waihī [Beach] gig and potentially release it as a live album.”

Sophie, who was also part of Aotearoa band Dr. Reknaw, made her solo music debut on September 19 with the release of her latest single Topliss Picking Flowers: a dreamy fusion of classic country charm and smooth Hawaiian tones.
Not only was the track inspired by euphoric afternoons spent in the garden, topless, under the South Taranaki sun – it was entirely self-recorded and produced by Sophie, and mixed and mastered by SEREBII.
The songbird said the act of “returning to just me and my guitar” felt like a deeply refreshing homecoming. “The energy is lighthearted and playful, and I’m genuinely excited to see how people connect with it.”
