Strong winds didn’t stop the Shorebird Coast Run event from taking place on September 14. If anything, it propelled the event. Organiser Tim Ashby-Peckham said there was just enough wind to “get beneath our wings” and take participants down the course. “We had 341 people show up for the main event, nearly triple last year’s total. 46 kids registered for the Kuaka Kids Game.” The event raised $1400 which would be donated to the Pūkorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre, he said. “I’m happy we pulled it off again and everyone involved did an amazing job. So proud of the team.” Even with the fresh conditions, Tim told The Profile the natural beauty of Pūkorokoro/Miranda stood out and people have already said they were looking forward to next year’s event.
