Sponsorship boon for Thames patrol

The Thames Community Patrol vehicle has been looking particularly well-groomed lately, thanks to the assistance of its new sponsor.

Chris O’Shea, who moved to Thames from Morrinsville to take on the branch manager role at Thames’ Fairview Motors in November, 2024, was thrilled to lend a hand to the non-profit group.

“I see a need in what the community patrol does,” Chris said.

“I just think it’s a big asset for Thames to have the community patrol so it’s nice to get behind it.”

Chris has been taking the vehicle in once a month for a full servicing and maintenance check, and even fills the fuel tank.

“This is an amazing help for our patrol finances,” patrol member Dianne Leather said.

“It just makes the running of the patrol that much easier … we have to do our own funding so this makes a huge difference.”

Chris has also joined the patrol as a volunteer, signing up for regular shifts on the road. He joins 14 volunteers already on the roster who patrol Thames several times a week.

“We do a couple of day patrols now too… it’s just a matter of being seen out there,” Dianne said.

“[But] we’re always calling out for more members.”
