Kaimai Brewing & Distilling, nestled in Waikino’s historic Waikino Hotel, has clinched a gold medal and the title of New Zealand’s Best Contemporary Style Gin at the 2025 World Gin Awards.
This prestigious accolade was awarded to their signature Eliza’s Claim Gold Gin, a testament to the distillery’s dedication to quality and innovation.
Founded in 2020 by Wayne and Kathy Chowles, Kaimai Brewing & Distilling draws inspiration from the rich gold mining history of the Karangahake Gorge.
Their gins are crafted using 50,000-year-old artesian spring water from the Coromandel Ranges, infusing each bottle with a unique taste of the region.
Eliza’s Claim Gold Gin, the distillery’s inaugural release, previously secured a gold medal at the 2021 New Zealand Spirits Awards.
Its recent recognition on the world stage underscores Kaimai’s commitment to excellence and the growing global appreciation for New Zealand’s craft spirits.
