Kaihere celebrates

Students, staff and families of Kaihere School gathered together on April 11 to celebrate the Sri Lankan New Year, which is observed on April 14.
Principal Ngaire Harris told The Profile it was an important celebration as there was a number of Sri Lankan families within the school community.
“The best part of the day was seeing our kids have such a good time while appreciating another culture,” she said.
“We have children from different parts of the globe at Kaihere School and learning to appreciate our diverse stories is really important for children to experience.”
Parents planned traditional games, explained aspects of their culture and finished off the event with a gift for each child and shared food.
