It takes dedication, leadership and grassroots support to run a club.
It’s what makes hitting the 50-year mark a momentous occasion for the Ngatea Rugby & Sports Club.
Former, current and lifelong members, as well as friends and family of the Ngatea Rugby & Sports Club are invited to celebrate the club’s 50th Reunion on May 23 to 25 at the Rugby Club, Hugh Hayward Domain.
Life member and former president; Graeme ‘Scruffy’ Hughes told The Profile the event would kick off on Friday May 23 with a mix and mingle.
Saturday, May 24, will have rugby matches, followed by dinner with a guest speaker and cutting of the reunion cake by two key supporters.
A social rugby game between the Ngatea Mudkickers and the Whangamatā Toe Kickers Golden Oldies teams on Sunday, May 25, will conclude the weekend’s celebrations.
Along with the mix and mingle on Friday May 23, there will also be an auction for people to snap up special reunion playing jerseys. The current team will play in these jerseys the following day for the home game, and then they’ll be returned to the auction winners.
Club member Don ‘Daff’ Neil has compiled a book of the club’s history, with the help of others in the Ngatea Rugby Club and wider Hauraki community, and this taonga is available separately or included in the dinner option for Saturday night.
DETAILS: To register for the Ngatea Rugby & Sports Clubs 50th Reunion, email NRSC50threunion@gmail.com or phone Scruffy on 021 161 9829.
The club is asking for people to please register for the weekend’s celebrations before April 20.
